素肌の上に着用する和服の一つ、浴衣(ゆかた)です。

平安時代、貴族達が風呂に入る際に着用した湯帷子(ゆかたびら)がその原型とされています。

江戸時代に入ると、庶民にまで広がり、徐々に湯上りに着る物から、外出着として着られるようになったりと、シーンが広がっていきました。

現代日本だと、夏祭りや花火大会等の夏の行事の際にのみ着用されることが殆どで、デイリーに着られることは少なくなりました。
