水拭きや寒暑除け、塵除け、祭礼においての装身具として使われる手拭い。

最近では、「Tenugui」として世界でも通用する木綿布です。

布に「ひょっとこ」や「おかめ」が入る事、はやし(お囃子の事)の表記が入るので、祭事に携わる方達が使用されていた物で間違いないですね。

半纏や法被を着て、これを頭に巻いたりして盆太鼓を叩いていたのでしょう、そんな日本の原風景を感じさせるお品でもありますね。
