職人達が着るワークウェアとして、また、体を締め付けない着心地の良さから部屋着としても着用される日本固有のウェアでもあります。
現在販売されている物を見てみると、値段が高い物は高く、安い物はクオリティがとても低いので、このくらいのバランスが整った物は、探してもなかなか見つかりません。
正確な年代は不明で、少し古いかもしれませんし、最近の物かもしれません。
海外だと作務衣はHappi Jacketとして野良着や印半纏と同様に人気を集めています。
